Green Energy Oman (GEO)

On 10 January 2023, Shell has joined GEO consortium as the operating partner to develop the 25-gigawatt project.

On 1 June 2023, InterContinental Energy entered into key project agreements with Hydrom and partner consortium. The project agreements grant the right to develop facilities to produce green hydrogen and its derivatives in the Al Wusta region of the Sultanate of Oman.

The first phase of development is expected to produce 150 KTPA of green hydrogen from 4 GW of installed renewable energy capacity, with the ambition to expand to 25 GW of renewable energy capacity over subsequent phases.

The GEO project was initiated in 2018 in partnership with OQ, the Sultanate of Oman’s global integrated energy company, and EnerTech, a Kuwaiti state-owned company focused on clean energy investment and development.

The consortium is working towards delivering more than 1.8 million tons per annum of green hydrogen to accelerate the energy transition both in Oman and internationally.
