InterContinental Energy Welcomes Shell to the Green Energy Oman Consortium
Another major milestone as the 25-gigawatt green hydrogen project takes a major step forward
SINGAPORE – 19 Jan 2023 – InterContinental Energy (ICE), a company committed to delivering green hydrogen at scale, today with our partners announced Shell has joined the Green Energy Oman (GEO) consortium as the lead operating partner.
ICE has been pioneering best-in-class green fuels hubs since 2014 with a portfolio of world-class Tier 1 projects spanning across three jurisdictions in Western Australia, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. The GEO project was initiated in 2018 and is under development in partnership with OQ, the Sultanate of Oman’s global integrated energy company, and EnerTech, a Kuwaiti state-owned company focused on clean energy investment and development.
“InterContinental Energy is pleased to welcome Shell as the future Operating Partner in Green Energy Oman (GEO). The deep experience and expertise that Shell provides is a major step towards bringing our 25-gigawatt mega project to the next phase,” said Tony Nieman, Head of Middle East for InterContinental Energy.
“This is an important milestone for ICE and our partners, to realize our shared vision in delivering more than 1.8 million tons per annum of green hydrogen to accelerate the energy transition both in Oman and internationally.”
As part of the project development, the consortium has deployed extensive solar and wind monitoring equipment and now has three years of data. Additionally, the consortium has conducted key research studies that are integral to the development of the project, such as the Concept Feasibility Study by Worley, the Energy Production Assessments by DNV, as well as the Environment and Social Impact Assessment study by HMR Consultants.
