Western Green Energy Hub (WGEH)

The Western Green Energy Hub (WGEH) is one of the largest green energy projects in the world. The shareholders are: InterContinental Energy (46%), CWP Global (44%), and Mirning Green Energy Ltd (10%).

With the vast coastal desert plains located in the far southeast of Western Australia’s Goldfields region, the Western Green Energy Hub will harness the untapped renewable energy of the wind and sun. The project will benefit from existing transcontinental rail and highway access. The project is a partnership with the Mirning Traditional Owners and is setting new benchmarks, such as the approach to community and families, environmental assessment measures, respect for indigenous culture, and inclusion and participation of First Nations Peoples.

On 11 July 2023, WGEH and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) signed an MOU to collaborate towards a Joint Development Agreement to produce green hydrogen in Australia. The MOU confirms KEPCO’s interest to participate in the project and lays the foundation for deepening the relationship between KEPCO and WGEH. Once at full scale, the WGEH project has the potential to produce up to 3.5 Mt of zero-carbon green hydrogen per year, for supply to both domestic and international customers, including South Korea.
